~Happy Halloween!~

Hope you all have a safe and
~Happy Halloween~

~Clean up on aisle 2,3,4,and 5!~

Yesterday about 4:30 PM I was sitting outside reading
enjoying the beautiful day before leaving for work.
Suddenly I hear the squealing of tires & then a very loud boom..
My neighbors and I ran to see what happened.
A car had crashed into the BP station
(3rd time since I've lived here)..
God had been watching over everyone.
The man narrowly missed a large Gas tanker
drove between occupied fuel pumps and into the BP store.
Only the owner was inside at the time,
luckily he had been on the other side of the store.
The man driving the car admitted to police he had been drinking.
He was not injured just very shaken up
What a mess!
At the BP owners request
my neighbor took many photos with my camera.

~My carbon footprint~

This morning as I walked to the grocery store
about 8 city blocks away
using the above cart
(today it held $43.96 worth of food)
I use no plastic or paper bags..
I got to thinking about my carbon footprint
on the world..
So I visited the site below.
Check out Carbon Footprint
Here is my carbon footprint results:
Your footprint is 0.83 tonnes,
which equates to 10.42 tonnes per year
The average footprint for people
in United States is 20.40 tonnes
The average for the industrial nations is about 11 tonnes
The average worldwide carbon footprint is about 4 tonnes
The worldwide target to combat climate change is 2 tonnes
We all must work harder to decrease our tonnes.
Go green!

~I received this very interesting email~

Onions fight flu virus (?)
After reading this you'll probably think I'm crazy.
I received this email (maybe you have too).
However I feel a need to pass it on..
It may just work!
It's said to be a true story.
****
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people
there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers
to see if he could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it
and many died.
The Doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise,
everyone was very healthy.
When the Doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different
the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion
in a dish in the rooms of the home,
(probably only two rooms back then).
The doctor couldn't believe it
and asked if he could have one of the onions
and place it under the microscope.
She gave him one and when he did this,
he did find the flu virus in the onion.
It obviously absorbed the bacteria,
therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ.
She said that several years ago many of her employees
were coming down with the flu and
so were many of her customers.
The next year she placed several bowls with onions
around in her shop.
To her surprise, none of her staff got sick.
It must work. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)
The moral of the story is,
buy some onions and place them unpeeled in
bowls around your home.
If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office
or under your desk or even on top somewhere.
Try it and see what happens.
We did it last year and we never got the flu.
If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick,
all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case.
Whatever, what have you to lose?
Just a few bucks on onions.
***
I'm on my way to the kitchen for onions
I'll place them in my
studio
living room
bedroom
Hope you all stay healthy!

~Could you live without your phone & computer?~

Hello.. I've been without a phone and my computer/Dsl service since Fri Oct 9 at 9:05am..
I was having a Dish network satellite installed Fri and the installer cut my phone/Dsl lines.. Dish installer said "yes I cut them but can't fix them call ATT" ..and walked out the door on his second visit... I called ATT (using my Daughters cell phone) Fri ATT was to come by 8:30 pm no show again.. I called ATT Sat at 8:00 am again no show. I called ATT and Dish Sun at 8:00am another no show.. I emailed ATT 2 times today.. no show AGAIN today but Dish came back to say "we can not fix it just wait for ATT"..Hopefully by tomorrow they ATT will email me and come fix the lines... I sure hope so. I have not been very nice to Dish or ATT...I've had to stay home everyday and wait and wait and wait.. only going to work a few evenings..so my question is "Could you live for 4 0r 5 days without a phone or computer?" It has been very quiet around here..

~Make your own foaming hand soap~

I love this!
I live on a very limited income and moneys tight like so many of you.
I ran out of the foaming hand soap I use for guests/company/grandkids..
for myself I use the messy hand soap but no more LOL!
Rather then toss out the foaming soap container I thought.
wonder if I can make my own?
Well yes I can and I did!
Here's how:
Add about 2 tablespoon of liquid hand soap to your empty foaming soap dispenser.
Fill the dispenser with water a little less then 1 cup will do
Do not fill to the top leave a little space in the container.
Stir with a spoon or put lid on and shake..
Pump the dispenser a few times to get the foaming started.
It really does work!
Let me know what you think :-}

~Boo Witch door greeter stockings~

I came across Witch stocking
on Etsy or eBay
they were not in my budget to buy
so I made my own...
I cut out 6 stocking using medium cotton fabric
used sewing machine to put them together
stuffed insides 3/4 way up with polyfil
the rest with newspaper
I painted 3 coats of white paint on stockings
last coat of paint (#4) I used the orange & black
stenciled on B O O
then antiqued them
added fake cat tails
hot glued moss on top
and moss on the front to look like buttons
sewed 3 rusty bells to the toes
antiqued 3 battery tea lights
and hot glued them between
the inside edge stocking & moss
nailed stockings on wood branch
added a black cord to hang
Now I have a Halloween door greeter
decoration for my Studio door
Give it a try
it's an easy project!

65" tall

***Info added Aug 29***

I used 3/8" ply wood for my Witches. I bought it at Home Depot for $9.98 for 4' by 8' sheet. I had them cut the sheet into 2 -65" pieces and still had wood left over for the cats I'll make. In the past I've only ever worked with a ban saw for cutting out my wood pieces.. My Witches are to large for that. My 15 year old neighbor (with the help of his Grandfather) cut out one Witch his Grandfather cut out the other. They used a jig saw. The Grandfather said my Witches were not hard to cut out.. I'd love to buy a jig saw (someday) and try cutting out this large stuff..

While treasure hunting at a flea market
I found a wonderful vintage 40s tablecloth

now I'm off to find a clock to put up where the old one was..
Gee am I doing this a bit back word?
Oh well that's just me.. LOL..

~Poison Ivy..Leaves of Three, Let It Be!~

Poison Ivy.. DO NOT even GET CLOSE to this stuff!
I found the above on the Internet.. Oh my the poor girl!
***
Well I've had a close encounter with poison ivy
I'm a bit miserable.. can't open my one eye.
Sunday I was landscaping..
I found that my poison ivy was back again this year.
Last year I removed it with no problems.
So again I was VERY careful removing it.
I bagged & tossed out my gloves, old clothing & the ivy.
Ran & took a shower..scrubbed & scrubbed..
Well on Tues the rash started & it's not stopped!
Rash/swellings on my arms, neck, fingers, ears, face & one eye..
Yesterday just happened to be my Doc visit.
Doc says use Kaolin..
I think I may have gotten the posion ivy
because it was windy Sunday..
the oil/resin must have gotten on me via the wind.
So dear friends.. like the old saying says
Leaves of Three, Let It Be!!!

~"Girls day out" at the movies~

I took this photo as Bella was leaving
the movie Angles & Demons.
Credits were rolling.

Yesterday was "Girls day out" for
my Granddaughter Bella, daughters, sister, niece and I.
We went to see the much anticipated movie Angles and Demons..
We loved it!! Especially Bella...........
She read the book (along with my sis, daughter, & niece)
Bella could not sit still waiting for the movie to start.
She wiggled and laughed and shared many
parts of the book with me.
This avid 12 year old book reader amazes me!
How she loves reading adult books.
(but only the ones her Mother approves) .
Bella and I held hands through the entire movie.
I enjoyed watching her face light up at this fast action mystery movie.
Being Italian, Catholic and understanding the workings of the Church
this movie had special meaning to us.
Many years ago I was lucky enough to visit Italy
and the Vatican City...
I stood at many of the fabulous sites in the movie!
Visiting Italy was truly one of the highlights of my life.
Bella gave me her Angles & Demons book.
Today I'll spend part of my day outside reading.
Have a happy Sunday :-}

~Zoe round head doll "Keeper of the key"~

I'd like you to meet Zoe "Keeper of the key".
She's the newest addition to my handmade dolls.
She's a round head doll.
Her hair is lambs wool,
her face/lips has been painted on (not very well),
separate cloth eyelids, and 3 dimensional nose.
Her head was made using 6 pieces of fabric
I prefer using my 5 piece round head pattern

~May devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary~

The month of May is devoted to
honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I remember as a child making
a May altar in my bedroom
on the first day of May.
Each day I would try my best to bring
fresh flowers to place before the
beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Many days I would visit my neighbors homes
and ask if I could please have
some of their flowers.
A few times I only had
dandelions to give to the Blessed Mother.

~Nikki's birthday~

Nicole Renee Rose
April 28, 1973 - December 10, 2003
If roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
then place them in my Nikki's arms and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love and miss her, and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek then hold her for awhile.
Remembering Nikki is easy, I do it everyday,
but there's an ache within my heart
that never goes away!

~Grandma-Your Angel~

For all the Grandmas in blogland
*****
~Your Angel ~
Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born.
The child asked God,
"They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow.
How am I going to live there being so small and helpless?
"God replied,
"Among the angels, I'll choose one for you.
Your Angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired,
"But tell me God, here in heaven
I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said,
"Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day.
And you will feel your angel's love and feel very happy.
" Again the child asked,
"And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me
if I don't know the language?"
God said,
"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear,
and with much patience and care,
your angel will teach you how to speak."
"I've heard that on earth there are bad people. Who will protect me?"
God said,
"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
At that moment there was much peace in heaven,
but the voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked,
"God, if I am to leave now,
please tell me my angel's name."
"Her name is not important.
You will simply call her GRANDMA."

~Sick Sam and a day with Bella~

I had planned to spend yesterday with
both my Grandchildren Sam & Bella....
but
Sam was sick and he had to go to the doctor.
He has strep throat, bronchitis, & a sinus infection!!!
Oh my gosh this poor sweet little guy...
I feel so bad for him..
What a way to have to spend your Easter vacation.
Darn!!
So only Bella and I spent the day together.
We made a pillow of Twilights Edward Cullen.
Watched the movie Twilight (again)...LOL..
and giggled and giggled and giggled.
Nothing like being with a 12 years old to make your day!
The above bag is Bella's.
I made it and added it to her Easter basket.
She added all the buttons.....
Hope all of you had a lovely Easter :-}

~Italian Wedding soup our hoilday tradition~

Italian Wedding soup has always been a family holiday tradition.. I'm the one who makes it.
My family had planned to get together today to celabrate Easter
....so I made the Wedding soup.
Well we will not be getting together after all :-(
So I enjoyed a bowl of Wedding soup alone today and it was very good!
I'll spend tomorrow with friends.
Happy Easter to all of you..
Hope you have a blessed day.. ~Mary~

Mary's Italian Wedding soup..
6 qts. water
1 whole chicken
4 large bay leaves (make sure you remove before serving)
1 large chopped onion,
1/2 pound baby carrots cut up
2 tsp. salt (more or less)
1 tsp. Garlic salt
1/2 tsp. Onion powder
Small meatballs for Wedding soup
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 tsp. dried parsley (fresh is better)
1/4 cup cheese, grated
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Sprinkle (or more) of garlic powder
1/4 tsp. basil (fresh is much better)
2 eggs
3/4 cup bread crumbs
mix all ingredients together
roll each meatball to the size of a medium olive
(get the kids, hubby, or Grand kids to help this takes awhile)

In large pot combine water, bay leaves, seasonings. Bring to a boil & then simmer until chicken is tender/cooked. Remove chicken, tear or cut into small pieces.. set aside. Strain broth (make sure you remove any small chicken bones and bay leaves toss them out) Return broth & chicken to pot. Add one large onion cut up, 1/2 pound cut up baby carrots, 1 large bunch (soaked & cleaned) cut up endive cook 30 minuets. Add meatballs cook another 30 minuets or so.
This is opptional..Before serving, while soup is simmering add very slowly: 2 well beaten eggs to soup. Stir constantly. Enjoy :-}

~Thoughts & prayers for L'Aquila Italy~

L'Aquila

~The above map shows where my Mother lived~
***
My thoughts & prayers are with the people of L'aquila Italy this day.
I have realives that live South of L'aquila, I'm worried about them..
I remember my Mother telling me stories about
the many earthquakes she lived through as a child.
She told me how her, my Grandparents & Uncle sleep outside for days
after an earthquake because of the after shocks.
When I traveled with my Mother to Italy (many years ago)
what a joy it was visiting all my relatives & seeing their way of life..
My Mother lived in a very small town called Liberi way up in the hills..
Please keep all these lovely people in your prayers
at this time of such devastation.
God bless them..

~ A prayer needed for my Granddaughter Bella~

Could you please keep my sweet 12 year old
Granddaughter Bella in your prayers..
She had to spend today in the emergency room ..
She again has an infection. We'll know more when the blood work is back.
The medications she takes depresses her immune system
causing her problems.
Bella was so upset because she could not go to softball practice today..
God bless her, she's such a sweetheart!
Thanks so much..

~Twilight obsession~

Twilight obsessions.
Isabella AKA Bella (my 12 year old granddaughter)
my daughters and I are a bit "twilight" obsessed.
Bella got us hooked on the "twilight" book series.
She read the books before they were so popular and was hooked.
She LOVES to read, never without a book in her hand.
I remembered how thrilled she was to hear
the movie was coming out, she saw it twice before we did.
A few months ago we did a "twilight movie girls night out"
with Bella, my 2 daughters, my sister and I.
I enjoyed the movie, but I'd not read the book yet..
Last Monday I started on book one "twilight"
now a week later I'm on book 4 (last one) yep I'm hooked.
Yes the books are about vampires and werewolves.
Yes they are written for teens....
but they are such endearing books about young love & devoted friendship.
It's been great fun chatting with Bella about these books..
We spent Friday making twilight jewelry, reading & chatting.
What fun it was for both of us!
Nothing like the bond between Granddaughter & Grandmother.
Twilight comes out on DVD on March 21.
Bella and her Mama will be at one of the many
"twilight" midnight parties.

~Such beautiful advice~

An Angel says
"Never borrow from the future.
If you worry about what may happen tomorrow
and it doesn't happen,
you have worried in vain.
Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice."
***
Such beautiful advice
sent to me by my friend Debbie
Thanks I needed this :-}
***
1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.
25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank you Jesus .'
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33 Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36 Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.
GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

-19 degrees here in Ohio Brrrrr...how cold is it at your house?

Brrrrrrrrrrrr it's so cold here in Ohio.
I just walked to the bank about 1/2 city block away
oh my gosh it's so cold out there!!!
The radio says it's -19 with the wind chill..
HOW COLD IS IT AT YOUR HOUSE???
*****
Poem
Age and Cold

There is a combination which I have found to be a chilling pair.
It’s the wrinkled and tattered skin of mine and this cold arctic air.

My joints are sore already so they do not need the chill.
To say the least my aching knuckles are not a real great thrill.

Oh for the days when a snowball fight was considered a really fun game.
These days I will stay inside by a roaring fire if it’s all the same.

I look forward to the days when the kids come for a visit.
I can hint how wondrous the fire would be and maybe they will build it.

Either way I prefer the warmth these days as do my fingers and my toes.
Whenever it’s cold and snows.

~Happy 2009~

A bit of silliness..
My side studio window faces my sweet neighbors home..
They are smokers, but do not smoke in their house..
Bless them for that!
they come out their side door to smoke (rain, shine, freezing cold )
and stand and look toward my cottage..
These dear neighbors are having a very hard time of it..
a few weeks ago I started leaving them little signs in my window..
signs that read
"82 day till spring" on a cold snowy day
"have fun at work".
"enjoy your day"

~Please pass this "Smile award" around~~

Weeks ago I designed this little "Smile award" button. My plan was to give it to you Guys & Gals in blog land who make me smile..There are so many. Now instead I just want you to take this "Smile award" & pass it around. Give it to blogs that make you smile, Guys or Gals who make you smile.. whatever whoever.
I myself could use a smile.. my seasonal depression is starting to set in. I have fought hard for weeks now determined that it would not over take me (again) this year..I thought I was doing OK but I guess not. Yesterday the tears started, today I just can't turn them off..as I type they are streaming down my face. I am so upset with myself! Sorry..
I've been visiting your blogs reading such sad upsetting things and I take it all to heart.. deaths, illnesses, job loss, the sadness goes on & on.. how my heart goes out to all of you with such problems. I wish there was something I could do to make things better.
OK enough said.. My sweet neighbor stopped over and invited me to "movie night" at their house tonight. God bless them!
So hugs to you my sweet blogging friends. I wish you all a new year filled with many smiles.

~Yesterday a day of blessings~

Beautiful gifts from my "cyber Son" Rob & his family..

Found this huge box at my door yesterday
after coming from the movies with my Grandchildren Isabella & Samuel..
went to get warm & to see the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua
The box was from a long time eBay customer & friend of mine Rob
This sweet guy has never missed my birthday, Mothers day, Christmas!
God bless you Rob you are so thoughtful.
He's like the son I never had & wished I did.
It's amazing how such dear people come into your life.
He lives in Massachusetts & has been without power for days!
He has a sweet wife Cathy & 4 beautiful children..
Rob if you read this I love all the gifts you picked out for me..
you have great taste!
Thanks so much.. I sure hope your heat is back on too.
Also I received the above card
with a welcome gift inside from my friend Carole.
Thanks so much Carole you are so kind to me!
Carole has a new blog please stop by & visit.
Many of you already know this fun Gal!
a Bohemian Market
So my cottage is now warm again 62 degrees.. Yippee!
I know that's a bit cool to some of you
but I must keep heating cost down..
So with a smile on my face
I thank God for my warm cottage, and for kind friends
like Rob & Carole
I truly am so very blessed!
Hugs, much love & Merry Christmas to all of you!
~Mary~
