~vintage cuff bakelite bracelet and assemblage necklace~

I love to  recycle, reuse, and re purpose stuff.
With my passion for collecting vintage buttons, findings and jewelry
I created the above bracelet and necklace.

BAKELITE cuff BRACELET
I used wide black waistband elastic
and sewed on 50 of my old bakelite buttons,
 layering 2 and 3 at a time.
I started in the center and worked to each side.
After sewing on buttons
I hand stitched elastic ends together.
 Easy project....just takes time.

The other day my friend Penny and I
got together for a fun girls "play day"
we wanted to try our hand at assemblage jewelry.
We never make a thing that day LOL...
just chatted for hours and
 showed off our vintage findings.
*
I'd like to stop and thank my dear friend
for sending me many of her fabulous vintage findings.
How kind she was to share her treasures with me,
 bless her sweet heart!!

ASSEMBLAGE NECKLACE
With some of my own old stuff
I put together this necklace.
 I added buckles, marcasite buttons,
and cross from an old rosary
to a sterling silver chain.

On to my next project
a vinatge white mother of pearl bracelet!

Oh my gosh..........DELISH! I love your old buttons. I actually just finished a button bracelet last night....Mine is black glass and rhinestone buttons....I was amazed how long it took to sew all those buttons on that dang elastic. I thought it would be about a 20 minute project. It took TWO days. :-)

Warm blessings,
Spencer

Mary, you are so clever! I love the bracelet. I have a small collection of vintage buttons (boring comupared to the treasure you have) but I HATE to sew on buttons.

No kidding, when my husband loses a button on his clothes, I send them to the cleaners with a note!

Wonder if they would sew the buttons on the bracelet for me?

Just kidding!!! I'm going to try something like this for myself!!!

Big old hug for you, Mary...

Love the bracelets. Twenty years ago I made two matching button bracelets for my little daughter and her best friend. They loved them and still have them. What fun!

Hi Mary!!
I love the bracelet, and your wondcerful button collection. I just started collecing buttons. here in Hawaii there is not too much areas to buy vintage items. I get buttons when my friends go to visit the states and they bring some home for me lol.

The cross necklace is gorgeous. Until I read that you made it, I assumed it to be a lovely vintage piece you bought. It's quite a talent you have - a great eye for the neatest and prettiest things.

All the best,

Cheryl

Mary, my daughter would scream over that bracelet. I wish I could find buttons like that. Mine are all dark bakelite from the 40s. I have a huge jar and they are just too big for a bracelet, so I usually use them on my crafts. Can't wait to see what you do with mother of pearl. Love and Blessings,Pat

I am so inspired by your button bracelet. I want to make one too. I don't have as wonderful "supplies" as you do, but surely I could come up with something. Wonderful creation, girl! :)
